One of the biggest challenges when publishing online is the scarcity of quality images. Many that you come across either include restrictions on use or are of such poor quality that they are hardly worth using. Blog writers also have to be careful to avoid the trappings of copyright and given that copyright is applied differently in various countries, it makes the use of images very confusing.
So what if there was a resource that provides totally free, public domain (no attribution required) images that were also high resolution and high quality. Say hello to Pixabay, a repository for outstanding public domain images. The site was set up in order to prevent the aforementioned struggle to find images you can actually use. The homepage presents some of the best images, somewhat reminiscent of the Bing homepage, and you can simply search for the type of image you are looking for.
You can freely use any image from this website in digital and printed format, for personal and commercial use, without attribution requirement to the original author.
Pixabay currently host 59275 available images, of which 34036 are photos and 25239 are illustrations. It’s a great site and a good place to start if you are stuck for images to use. Check it out!
