25th March 2009 - OnLive. The Future of Gaming?

With the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2009 now underway the furore seems to be centring on a new device called OnLive. The device aims to eliminate the need for separate games consoles such as the Xbox, Playstation or PC and even the need for any actual games.

OnLive only needs a small decoding device to work and all the games are stored on servers at the company’s headquarters. Instead of playing the game locally your controller will play the game on their servers and through video compression a video of your interaction with the game will be sent back to your box to display what is happening.…
